The 2008 US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York is one of the most prestigious on the tennis circuit. On top of his game and leading the men’s rankings, it comes as no surprise that Rafael Nadal leads the betting, closely followed by his big rival Roger Federer.

The two players are considered head and shoulders above the rest of men’s tennis at the moment, with only Serbian star Novak Djokovic considered a serious threat to Nadal and Federer. The Spaniard is a normally considered a clay court specialist, but his form and game have improved on all surfaces in the last eighteen months, an improvement which has seen Bodog install Nadal as the 5/4. Federer is priced at 9/4, while Djokovic is marginally longer at 11/4.

British eyes will follow Andy Murray, who will hope to put behind a woeful performance at the Olympics. The young Scotsman is 10/1 to take what would be his first major title.

American hopes will rest on the shoulders of Andy Roddick, who is generally happier on hard court surfaces. Roddick has it all to do in the eyes of the bookies though, and can be backed at 33/1. A solid outside bet could be placed on the Russian Nikolay Davydenko, who has been able to put in some astounding – if not sporadic – performances. If you think he can put together a successful campaign in New York, you can back Davydenko at 50/1.
